Idea

Hi. I had an idea. Perhaps I can move some content from Uncyclopedia to here once it is deleted with a message like 'content moved to Illogicopedia' or something. Then, the article can be moderated/modified to fit in with the style of the wiki. -- Hindleyite 15:42, 8 January 2007 (EST)

it seems like NOT being an admin is more desirable on this site. There are after all 4 admins, and only one user (me!) so the logical (or illogical, hehe) conclusion is that not being an admin is more rare and makes me more important. A chance to start from scratch

Well, Illogicopedia is extremely new. And it has very few articles/users. Very few articles.

So I suggest we take the opportunity of a brand-new wiki and run with it.

Let's attempt to make the current articles good enough to stay, and temporarily ban new article creation, or at least by anons. We should organise this wiki at a very small scale and expand from that; if we have misformed foundations, then it will end up like Uncyclopedia. There will eventually be good things, but everything will ultimately be slightly askew because we didn't take the time to create it the right way. Flameviper 18:48, 2 February 2007 (EST)

What? We are still laying foundations now, but we cant afford to lose all of our fantastic editors and end up at the start again. This place has rules and regulations for users, but few for content, there is the About page, but that needs to be improved, it just isn't emphasised as much as it should be. I dont see what is wrong with here, its still in its early stages so we can still fix anything that is wrong, just say where you think it can be improved and we will consider a way of solving the problems. this place was always a temporary location anyway, we always intend to move either to wikia or to host the site ourselves. I was thinking something more along the lines of modifying the infrastructure (i.e. Illogicopedia: namespace) and getting the rules down pat so that everything is defined when it comes to users and such. For Uncyclopedia, I'm supposing that never happened (or at least it seems like it) because there are little constants as far as administration goes. For example, there are little to no designated venues for conflict resolution or deletion review. It's assumable that for Uncyclopedia and, to some extent, Wikipedia, the nature of the completed wiki and the needs of its users was unknown from the start, and thus the core structure was slightly mislaid and thus the entire wiki was built well-padded with information/humor but was slightly astray. I reccomend making an "Illogicopedia infobox" that outlines the core priniples of Illogicopedia and lists all the policy pages. I'll start on that promptly. Flameviper 11:09, 3 February 2007 (EST)

Dont think we can do namespaces as this is hosted on a wikifarm, we only have the namespaces we already have. the rules are down pat, just search rules in the search box, i will do all of the things above by adding to the community portal, currenly our rubbish articles policy is that a user can put a trash template onto the article and then it has around a week to improve or it gets deleted. the point is we have all of these rules in place we just dont use them yet because we don't need to. I will put the pages inso that they are all linked together though. Take that rules page in mind when creating any policy page. One more thing, conflict resolution currently takes place in the forum which can be found in the community section of the navigation bar on the left.----<css>

I know you still want Wikia hosting, but http://www.elwiki.com/ provides wiki hosting, you have to apply, they host multiple sites on the same subject, and provide a domain name for sites over 10 pages of content. David 06:08, 13 March 2007 (EST)

However, I think reaching a milestone of 100 members, would it not be reasonable to have an ALT newsgroup (e.g a Usenet group) that permits images and text only? Should your ISP not list our group, you can simply request it from Google Newsgroups.

I think it's a good idea to avoid tasteless profanity (as I have made the mistake of using). But sometimes, it's neccesary for a good article. Perhaps a template is in order? Something along the lines of "This article contains profanity. Proceed with caution". And maybe a pr0n template. All would be in Category:Not work safe. Whatever. I mentioned earlier that I'm starting a new wiki (and thanks for the site, by the way), but we have a problem. Nobody seems to want to stay on board! No real trick, i didn't if you look in the special pages at the user list I have 40 users of which only about 6-10 edit regularly, you just have to be nice, consistant and have a good idea that people want to edit. yours is a very good idea but it is a bit cult(so its hard for people to edit it) and you need to know what you are talking about to edit on it, so making a clearer main page might help and add in a overview of things you need to know about your fictional world and add a better forum of some sort to help build a community as your wiki will rely heavily on it. hope that gives you some pointers. --<css> span.seppysig{

I think the main advantage of ?pedia has been the fact it's a breakaway from Uncyc so has had some promotion in the off-topic forum gaining us some extra users. In addition I have, on occasion, mentioned to Uncyc users that might 'fit into' this wiki better on the evidence some of their articles (which were invariably deleted). MrMetalFlower is an example of this. Maybe I should do it more...

And that's about it, really. I'd say 95% of our users were originally from Uncyc. It's a slow process, sometimes only one new user a week and generally they sign up and fade away. 2 questions

First of all, your sig. Change it so that the code is template based. Second of all, I propose a deal. I'm tired of sitting around in a community where 2 thirds of the people there are admins, and i've also realised that I'm useless at writing random articles. As much as I love this site and everything it stands for, I feel I'm not much of a help and all I do is slow things down. However, i'm not going to just leave, I'm going to propose a deal:Make me admin, and I will constantly moderate all pages that require it: I'll ban users, I'll delete crappy pages, I'll track down serial vandals/blankers/10 year olds, and etc. In other words, i'll pretty much become the Famine (as in the uncyclopedian) of ?pedia. I know it's a pretty big request, but I want to know what it's like to be an admin and delete the main page really want to be as much help towards the site as possible. I would really like you to consider this carefully, and if this is not possible, please tell me other ways i can make the movement of the site smoother and how I can deem myself worthy of adminship. I sorted out my sig yesterday after I noticed that the nosubst: was missing, my last post is a normal template I believe. Doesnt help your campaign for adminship to tell someone they are doing somethign wrong. Like iv said to people who complain about it having no point/or they cant think about stuff to write, Its not all about the articles, its posting in the forum and generally being happy with other people, ?pedia is more of a Laugh type of site than a site you add to a knowledge base, there isnt a knowledge base to add to. Things you can do to help: post on the forum; it makes the site look more active: Mark rubbish articles with the trash and VFD templates, Feature good articles, get more users, add to the podcast, add to the blog, Maintain the VTU and VAU, there is plenty to do. Also articles don't have to be random, they are also things like wikipedia vandalism or one liners. We have six admins because we have three founding members. An admin position isnt final, if someone isnt preforming then they don't get to keep the job. Just stick around, don't be nasty and show you can be responsible. Finally, Get us some more users, we need to build a good community. Does that give you a long enough list?--<css> span.seppysig{

Well, there are six admins of which three are founding members and three normal admins. we only had one at one point and then we added two more becuase the one was too little, but its fine at the moment, when we have more users we may well need more admins, espeacally ones in your timezome, but for now we don't need any, as soon as we do though we will talk about it. This edit...

...looks a bit suspicious to me. Note how a certain someone kept moving the article to ED before as well as made many references to it on that wiki. Also note the n-word added and goatse references. Going by a search, the Hardvice name replacing AAH on that page is also an ED-er banned on Wikipedia. I have reason to believe sock puppeteering is going on in the feature vote.

During my morning musings I went to check how the voting was going to see a previous 5-0 vote had become 5-3. Fair enough I thought, but in the space of fifteen minutes two new users had appeared with little to say and even littler to contribute. I checked the feature vote and surprisingly all articles except for Bcbkye had about 3 extre votes against them and bckbye had about 2 extra votes for it. I don't want ot point the finger but I'm fairly sure it was Fonchezz who was on illogic around the same time, but not during the small period of time when the sock puppets were made. Also it's in his interest bcbkye gets featured as he would get a gold star. I could be worng, what do you reckon? Also, this may sound liek I'm clutching at straws but Fonchezzz has been dubbed the "sockpuppet king" aswell as stating in the entry above mine that:

Don't worry me and Fonchezz sorted it out on IRC, it was sockpuppetting, we agreed to make it fair and restart the voting, - which I've done by adding in an extra questiion mark to the feature template on all the articles up for feature. Hi. I just noticed today that, on a search for 'Illogicopedia' on Google, Illogicopedia.org now comes ahead of the editthis wiki. Woopwoop! Strangely, that old wiki shot up the pagerank when I searched the other day... weird. I ain't comin on IRC this evening (cba) but is there any way you could unlock the editthis wiki? I want to see if I can sort out that weird javascript/css problem that's going on over there. I also know you're gonna say 'Well there's no point because we left ages ago blah blah' but since it's spewing up quite high in the search results it might be worth looking at, jazzing up the move notice and all. Also, it's an important part of our history and should be preserved! I appreciated your vote for IOTM. I've been feeling a real creative streak recently, and I owe it entirely to the great environment you've created here. It's very much a community; large enough to be (dys)functional, but without an insane amount of traffic, competition, whoring, and deletionism that turns everyone into pushing, shoving strangers. Whether people like or dislike the stuff I write, they actually take the time to read it and say, "Wow, this is great." or "Sorry, I didn't care for it." This is what kept me at Uncyc, and the loss of that environment (with growing popularity, traffic, fascism) drove me away. It made me think, "I'm done. I've got nothing left in me to write." Getty images is a stock photo company, their whole business is based on people paying for their images, I'm sure if i took something that ?pedia rightfully gives you credit for you would probably care. In any case, we cannot claim fair use (which is a very restrictive law in both the UK, USA and Canada) on that image, hence it was deleted.--<css>

Commandent 7 has been broken repetitively in the past to no avail. Are apparently all the same person, including the IP. Or a group, but they/it only show up together, though not necessarily all at once...

It'll make an account or accounts, usually leaving one or two for later use, since only the ones actively vandalising will be banned, right? That's more for wikis that take time to attain autoconfirmed status, I think, however; here it is entirely unnecessary, as it can create an account and start blanking pages, replacing with an excerpt regarding 'spiders web', and moving pages around immediately, and apparently without much limitation on how many can be moved in a span of time... would you be able to change that? The thing has only become more persistent each time, so it might be a good idea, add a day, perhaps, to autoconfirm, for instance... give time, as user creations stand out, after all.

But the other accounts also serve for confusion - have one or two edit over what the 'vandal' ones did, in ways that look like they might be trying to help, if incompetently. Never quite fits the wiki in question, though, but it looks like it was trying to help, thus staying the block, and it also makes it that much harder to revert - cannot rollback, cannot move back without removing the original page first.

But they reveal themselves - the separate accounts aren't consistent; what each does will cross over into the next amidst a horrible convoluted mess that is a ruddy pain to clean up. I can't do it. I've tried, but... I really can't. All I can do is hide it...

It's annoying, though. I am not here to deal with vandals. I do not want to have to follow a maze of page moves just to recover a friend's talkpage, only to find I cannot put it back, and there are no admins around to do so. I hate this waiting until the vandal goes away, because there is simply nothing I can do to stop it.

I hate it. I come here to dream, not to find everything scrambled in a convoluted mess that I am powerless to do much of anything about, and now I am dumping this on you, simply because you happened to wander in and express confusion as to the very same thing that confused me at first. And perhaps you can be less confused than I was. Perhaps, hells, you can do something about it?

LET'S FINALLY FACE THE FACTS WE'VE KNOWN FOR A WHILE: We need a new admin. I checked Illogicopedia every half an hour today to see if the vandals got blocked and guess what? I checked like 9 times before he was. It's annoying every single day I see a vandal, I just have to try to keep up with him with my ghosting (which is impossible). These days, only you and Hindleyite ever get on. Hindleyite is only on for a certain period of time every day so assuming that the vandal doesn't vandalize in his window of time, it's just a waiting game for you to log on. I don't know about you, but that isn't a fun responsibility to have. It's going to get to the point where the amount of vandalized pages is too overwhelming to revert and people roaming the site will randomly find blanked pages and that sucks. I haven't said anything explicitly because I don't want it to make it seem like I'm begging for adminship (which I'm not), but you have to be naive to think that two active admins is enough for a site that gets vandalized like three times a month. Also, the same article wouldn't be featured for a year. So that's my statement. Why bother with fancy blocking techniques when this can be solved with one (or two) more admin(s). --T3 02:40, 11 Ditzimber 2010 (UTC)

The problem here isn't so much a lack of admins as it is a lack of ACTIVE adminship. I'll do my part for one to keep checking. Appointing more admins won't change the problem of there being large stretches of time where nobody's online. It's a bit dramatic to say the site'll be overwhelmed by vandalism without extra adminship too, we just deal with the occasional blanker who has absolutely no soul. I'd given up hope of there being a new admin after my silly attempt to get T3 and/or rms opped was brushed away, but more would definitely help... assuming they would... well, help. But even if a one doesn't happen to be around when something goes down, some things also just need an administrator to clean them up, and of late there has been a distinct shortage of even that, assuming it was ever done... I really would not know. What I do know, however, is that just looking at the mess and banning a couple of them without actually figuring out what happened or doing anything else about it demonstrates what seems to me to be the real issue here: we need folks who will actually do something, who have the time and will to do something. THE does some. Hindleyite does some. Silent Penguin does a little. Nerd42 does squat, and the rest...

The problem is, who would do more? And can folks not change? So some of the older users have been less than reliable in the past; would this necessarily still be the case? Especially in a place such as this, over the years, people grow up. And new users... sure, you do not know us; how could you trust us? But on the other hand, tried, I dunno, talking to us? To all of us, though, everyone, old and new alike; how much has the userbase actually changed? Who are we as a whole, compared to who we... well, you, as I was not around then... were? You may find there are more options than you thought.

At any rate, though, I hate to bring up sore topics, but what I suggested initially may also help - they are rather like some of the more effective counter-vandalism tactics I have seen on Wikia. I know you lot are rather upset with them, and for good reason, but they are a company in a capitalist society, and not all they do is ineffective. Just because Illogicopedia is free of the nutty heap does not mean we cannot still learn from them. Pity they could not learn from you, however, but no matter.

Thanks for your warm support, Jon. And if the idea was to add even more dead weight to the top end, then I would unabashedly support giving a flag to the guy who's had 10 edits so far in 2011... :P. Anyway, today's dick plastered the pages sky high with pornshite that obliterated the edit tabs of the theme skin. Reverting it was a pain in the ass and apparently MediaWiki is too broken to make rollback stick to my account. So: I'll save myself the hassle and save you having to read my overlong messages by just leaving future cleanup to the professionals. As for the Featured template, well, I'll just post a reminder every Sunday night it gets missed. Mr. Yak is quick with his toolbox. Well Seppy, whilst I agree we don't necessarily need more adminses, we definitely far more have users capable of performing the task. As for the Feature template, I think there are too many damn fools around to keep it unlocked, but it might be an interesting idea to take on a 'feature admin', someone whose job it is to update features on a regular basis.
